Facial Fillers

1. What are facial fillers?

Facial fillers are collagen or synthetically made materials used to add volume and shape to the face. Our office uses products that contain Hyaluronic acid (HA) or Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA). The brand names for these products are Juvederm and Radiesse.

2. How does it work?

A numbing cream is applied to the skin before injecting. The facial filler is gently injected with a fine needle into the targeted areas. The filler instantly defines, lifts, and adds volume to deficient areas such as the cheeks, hands and deep facial folds to create a youthful appearance. It also stimulates the production of your own natural collagen for long-term facial rejuvenation. If facial filler is being used for wrinkles, smile lines, or facial folds, these areas are immediately concealed by subtly reducing their appearance.

3. How long does it last?

Results typically last 8 to 18 months depending on the individual, area treated, and product used. It is highly recommended that treatments are performed on a regular basis to maintain a natural look. If treatments are discontinued the treated area will eventually return its pre-treatment appearance.

4. What kind of lines can Facial Fillers treat?

5. Pre-Treatment Care

To reduce the risk of bruising, do not take any anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medications for 1 week before the treatment. This includes Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil and Antihistamine Medications.

Do not schedule injections before an event. Allow at least 10 days before any major events in case of any bruising or swelling occurs.

6. Post-Treatment Care

Do not rub or apply firm pressure (no facials!) to the injected area for 24 hours following treatment. Avoid activities that involve lying faced down, such as physiotherapy treatment or massages.

Gently apply cold compresses to the injected areas immediately after the procedure and repeatedly for the first 24 hours. Ice the areas in 15 minute intervals to minimize the swelling.
Sleep with your head elevated the first night after injection to reduce any swelling of the face.

Avoid exercise and strenuous activity for the first 24 hours after injection.

Swelling and bruising may occur. This may last a few days, and can be camouflaged with makeup.
Avoid thermal trauma such as hot showers, whirlpool, steam rooms, saunas, etc. for 2 days following treatment.

Do not take any anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medications for 1 week following treatment. This includes Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil and Antihistamine Medications.

7. How is it priced?

Facial filler is priced per syringe. Prices vary depending on the type of filler selected.
